So as I was about to watch Nextflix, I looked over and realized there was a TV rating in the description for the show. I thought of the lecture when Linnea was going over the TV and music ratings and Parental Advisory. This shows how history is a part of our day to day lives.

When I was reading Chapter 23 of HIST that was about World War 2, it reminded me a lot of my grandmother. She was born in the Manzanar internment camp when all the Japanese people were sent to different camps. My family and I have visited the camp site, which is now a museum, multiple times, most recently this past summer. It was especially interesting when we went that time because it happened to be on her birthday that we visited her birthplace. This hacking assignment inspired me to talk more with her about that experience. She shared a lot with me about it but something that stuck with me was that following the liberation of the camp, they all received a letter from President Bush that apologized and offered a sum of money. This gesture was appreciated, but the sum of money did not compare to what the families had prior to being ripped away from their homes and jobs. The first image is of the wall that has all of the residents of the camp’s names on it, of which we took a picture of my families names. The second picture is the sign of the camp.

Here is a hack of me hacking a hack in history lecture. History is always occurring, by learning about the history of America we are becoming more aware of our surroundings and creating new historical events. As these students hacked the class thinking no one was paying attention, I stopped and took a picture of them as they became apart of my history in that lecture. They noticed me though because I had my flash on.. not so subtle. Actions that affect you are always taking place and prior to this picture I had no idea what I would hack, so in which case they changed my history and helped me with my grade unintentionally.

Meet the $100M superyacht that’s just for women
In the world of the rich and famous, you’re nothing without a superyacht. And up until now, the market has been skewed toward the male multimillionaire. But “from today the world of luxury superyachts is open for ladies as well,” according to Lidia Bersani, a designer who has drawn up plans for the first superyacht aimed solely at women. Bersani has turned her luxury interior design skills to produce La Belle a concept design for a “elegant and feminine superyacht”. The 80 meter boat is designed for 12 people, boasts 5 decks, a master bedroom with a large circular bed, and five guest suites. On board is a beauty center, disco, cinema, bars and a well-equipped spa. “Today luxury yachts are primarily focusing on the entertainment and sports of men, with or without their girlfriends,” Bersani told CNBC via an email. “I am a lady myself, that mean I understand the desires, dreams and tastes of women very well. I can tell you, we are not dreaming of watching football with a glass of whisky while smoking a cigar,” Bersani said.
– Found this as a headline with CNBC this article is solely their property, but as a woman who is proud to enjoy watching sports and relaxing in a “man cave,” I have to ask is the view of a yacht, “just for women,” continuing to limit woman to certain spheres? Yes this specific yacht is designed for a woman for money, but just because she is a woman and has money does that mean she automatically needs a disco, spa, and a beauty center? Just wondering how far women have actually come if this is a design just for us and really its painting a particular picture of what we would like.

Even though it has been a few weeks since we discussed being “haunted by history”, a conversation I was having with my grandmother reminded me of it. She and a few of my cousins do genealogy research fairly regularly and one of them had come across something unusual. They had found a book written about my great grandfather, her father, written by someone completely unrelated to our family. Apparently, his career as a music professor was much better know than we had assumed and now he has been immortalized as a feature in the history of South Dakota.

Over the weekend I watched a TV show on Comedy Central called, “The Nightly” hosted by Larry Wilmore. As I watched the show, Wilmore and his guest stars discussed serious issues which very much related to topics brought up in History 110 lecture thus far. The first clip references normalities and fertitlity rates in the 20th century. While the second clip shows a discussion about superclasses in America and oppression throughout the centuries. The third clip shows Penn Jillette stating that “statistics say, the more women in society and the more women in power, the more peace and the less violence you have.”
As I referenced topics talked about in lecture to this TV show, I began to realize the significance of the clip with Penn Jillette. As Professor Blum had just recently discussed the childish and savage-like behavior of our government in the past. The Department of Defense was created after both World Wars, in order to have a place that essentially supplies artillery and in return, deaths. The etymology of the word “defense” in this case is used in the opposite context. All this because of the assassination of an Austrian archduke? Which in the end created the question, what would foreign relations be like if more women were in power?

I was going through my music, and noticed the little parental advisory content bar in the corner when I was listening to a song. I automatically thought of the lecture we had about parental advisory and who should be the judge of the content of the song. However, I do not think this sign should be on this song because come on its RIhanna and its called “California King bed” What could be so bad?

During the reading in Hist racial segregation there was a big problem with African Americans they were not allowed in the same schools as white people, they could not vote or even sit in the front of the bus with the white people. Considering how people were segregated we have come a long way today there is so much diversity at San Diego State University, people do not have a problem hanging out with people of different races. Today everyone is considered an equal in getting the education that everyone is entitled to, difference is a thing of the past. Social change has been slow, but the persistence of fighting for what is right and deserved of all we have become a society of greatness.

As I was reading in Chapter 16 of the HIST book last week, the book was talking about how black women were being sexually violated and raped by white males in the south. The book then went on to point out how the freedom of African Americans was still extremely limited since the Civil War ended and that “change” wasn’t being made in their favor.
I thought that this was depressing and also extremely relevant to our lives as college students. We have had multiple sexual assault/ rape issues on our campus in this year alone and other universities in the United States have had similar instances. People everywhere are still having bits of their freedom stripped away by acts of sexual violence. It’s sad to discover that this was and still is an issue in America.

Last week I was watching Australian Open and this is a picture of one of the arenas. This one is used as the center court during the tournament. The arena was named after the famous Australian tennis player Rod Laver due to his amazing history as a tennis player. Every tennis player who steps out to play a match on this court will think of him and what he achieved during his career.
