As I was reading in Chapter 16 of the HIST book last week, the book was talking about how black women were being sexually violated and raped by white males in the south. The book then went on to point out how the freedom of African Americans was still extremely limited since the Civil War ended and that “change” wasn’t being made in their favor.
I thought that this was depressing and also extremely relevant to our lives as college students. We have had multiple sexual assault/ rape issues on our campus in this year alone and other universities in the United States have had similar instances. People everywhere are still having bits of their freedom stripped away by acts of sexual violence. It’s sad to discover that this was and still is an issue in America.
